Nieves Aguirre, first female member of LANA

On 8th March “Kooperatiben Kontseiya “and “Konfekoop”, alongside many important institutional representatives, paid heartfelt homage to the pioneering women of the cooperative movement on its road to equality.

Under the slogan “Empowering together, making history, more cooperatives, more equality”, this moving event called for a greater female presence in the professional world, encompassing technology and responsibility.

This homage recognised all the forward-thinking women who have formed part of the cooperative movement, with a special mention for our first female cooperative member, Nieves Aguirre. At the age of 23, she decided to leave her job in the garment industry to join our project at LANA. At the event, she spoke warmly of the thirty years that she worked at LANA and how she felt supported by her colleagues, both male and female.

The event took place at the Villa Suso Palace in Vitoria–Gasteiz. It demonstrated that EQUALITY is hard-wired into the cooperative movement, and that EQUALITY is the bedrock of a supportive, democratic and fair business model.

Congratulations ladies!
